What this result means
Enter how many cigarettes are used per day on average, how many are in the pack and the pack price. The calculator works out an exact daily rate, then applies 7, 30 and 365 days without adding inflation, investment returns or health claims.
What the result means
The main result is estimated cigarette spending over exactly 30 days at the unchanged daily rate, pack size and pack price entered. The smaller results use exactly 1, 7 and 365 days.
If cigarette purchases stop completely, the same period amount is potential spending avoided. It is not guaranteed savings because later prices, buying patterns and what happens to the money can change.
How the arithmetic works
The calculator divides the entered pack price by the entered number of cigarettes in that pack, multiplies by the average cigarettes per day, then multiplies the unrounded daily amount by each fixed number of days.
Official smoking-cost calculators in the United States, Australia and New Zealand use closely related purchase-rate inputs, but their local defaults and wider health or inflation assumptions are not imported here. [1][2][3]
What may affect the estimate
Actual spending can differ when daily use varies, packs contain a different count, prices change, cigarettes are shared or discarded, or purchases include discounts and other products.
For a reality check, compare the estimate with recent receipts or statements. Recalculate whenever the pack size, price or average daily count changes.
Why this tool has no health timeline
Money arithmetic and health outcomes are different user questions. This page does not turn cigarette counts into pack-years, disease risk, symptoms, life expectancy or a personal recovery schedule.
If you want support to stop smoking, use a qualified local health professional or official cessation service. This calculator does not recommend a method, medicine or treatment plan.

- Price per cigarette = pack price Γ· cigarettes in the pack. Daily cost = cigarettes per day Γ price per cigarette. Period amount = daily cost Γ 1, 7, 30 or 365 days.

- Rounding
- Calculate from exact entered decimals, keep the unrounded daily rate for every period and round each displayed monetary amount once to two decimal places, half up. A positive amount below 0.01 is labelled less than 0.01, never zero.
- Worked example
- Example: 10 cigarettes per day, 20 cigarettes per pack and a pack price of GBP 14.00 give GBP 7.00 per day, GBP 49.00 over 7 days, GBP 210.00 over 30 days and GBP 2,555.00 over 365 days. The potential amount not spent is the same only if those purchases stop.
