Calculate your result

Copy the EPA amount stated for one serving. Enter the number only.

Accepted range: 0 to 10000 mg

Copy the DHA amount stated for the same serving. Enter the number only.

Accepted range: 0 to 10000 mg

Use the serving definition on the label. A partial serving can be entered as a decimal.

Accepted range: 0 to 100 servings

What this result means

Enter the EPA and DHA amounts stated for one labelled serving, then enter the number of those servings you want to total. This adds label amounts only; it does not tell you how much to take. [1][2][3]

How the EPA and DHA calculation works

The calculator multiplies each amount printed per labelled serving by the number of those servings entered. It then adds the exact EPA and DHA totals. [1][2]

EPA and DHA stay separate in the result because they are distinct named omega-3 fatty acids. The combined figure is simply their arithmetic sum. [3]

Use the label's serving definition

A serving can contain more than one capsule, softgel or measured amount. Copy EPA and DHA from the same per-serving column, then enter how many of those labelled servings you want to total. [1][2]

Do not enter the product's total fish-oil amount as EPA or DHA. The calculator cannot derive either fatty acid when the label does not state it. [3]

What the result means

The result reports label arithmetic only. It does not say that the entered serving count is suitable, effective or safe for any person or purpose. [3]

Questions about dosage, pregnancy, medicines, bleeding risk, prescription products or a health condition require context this calculator does not collect. [3]

Privacy and limitations

The calculation runs locally in your browser. Inputs and results are not placed in the URL or sent as analytics details. Sharing sends only the public tool link.

The calculator does not identify a product, import a label database, verify accuracy or assess freshness, contaminants, purity, oxidation or absorption. [2][3]

Formula and assumptions

Formula
EPA total = EPA per labelled serving Γ— servings entered. DHA total = DHA per labelled serving Γ— servings entered. Combined total = EPA total + DHA total. [1][2][3]

Rounding
Calculate each product and the combined total using exact decimal arithmetic, then round each displayed value once to at most two decimal places using half-up rounding. No label precision is invented inside the calculation.
Worked example
Example: a label states 180 mg EPA and 120 mg DHA per serving. For 2 labelled servings, EPA totals 360 mg, DHA totals 240 mg, and the combined EPA plus DHA total is 600 mg. [1][2]

Who this is for β€” and when not to use it

Intended use

Transparent arithmetic for EPA and DHA amounts printed per serving on a food or supplement label and the exact labelled serving count entered by the user.

Not intended for

This tool does not recommend, validate or compare a dose, serving, product, target, safe limit, health claim or treatment. It does not infer EPA or DHA from total fish oil.

Exclusions

  • Dosage, frequency, target, safe-limit and treatment decisions
  • Product recommendations, rankings, potency bands and efficacy claims
  • Prescription omega-3 equivalence or substitution
  • Medication, anticoagulant, allergy, bleeding, surgery and interaction advice
  • ALA conversion, absorption, purity, oxidation, contaminants and label verification
  • Inferring EPA or DHA from a total fish-oil amount
